Hello Guys! Have you ever found it difficult to concentrate while reading? or maybe you find it difficult remembering things? Before you blame your “village people”, go through this post and see if it helps. Okay? Deal!

Did you know the food  you eat can have a positive or negative impact on your brain? The brain uses more energy than any other organ in the human body. Its important we feed our bodies with the right fuel that can help our brains function optimally. Ingesting the wrong kind of fuel (food) can cause cognitive problems or even memory loss overtime.

Here are three main foods you should totally avoid if you want to boost your brain- power:

A. SUGARY DRINKS/SNACKS

Our brain runs primarily on glucose as its major fuel source. However In the brain, excess sugar impairs both our cognitive skills and our self-control (having a little sugar stimulates a craving for more). Apart from its addictive nature, studies have shown that excess sugar can progressively to memory loss, fatigue and deficits in learning. Soft drinks usually contain high sugar content which are harmful to your brain. so the next time you feel thirsty…water is your best friend…

B. REFINED (WHITE) FLOUR PRODUCTS

Refined flour products generally have a high glycemic index (GI). This means your body digests them quickly, causing a rise in your blood sugar and insulin levels. Also, when eaten in larger quantities, these foods often have a high glycemic load (GL). The GL refers to how much a food raises your blood sugar levels, based on the serving size.

Studies have shown that just a single meal with a high glycemic load can impair memory in both children and adults .Another study in healthy university students found that those who had a higher intake of fat and refined sugar also had poorer memory.

Foods made from refined flour like white bread, pastries or instant noodles, increase your blood sugar and affect memory negatively.
